: I'm thinking of replacing my JBL 2246's (boat anchors)
I assume you mean 2446's
with either TAD 4002's or EV N-dym 1's. Has anyone had the opportunity to compare these two drivers in the 1.2khz to 12 khz range.
Both the TAD's and EV's have noticably more real world output than the JBL's in the range you specify.
Also, how does the 4002 compare in output level. I've noticed the driver is rated for 30wts (600hz, 2nd order network). I'm looking to use them x-overed at 1200hz using a 4 order x-over.
Simply put, the TAD's kick ass. You can even put in Radian after market diaphragms and still they will walk all over the JBL's in output and HF response. The EV's are pretty good but the sound of the TAD's is the best. I personally like the way the JBL's sound a bit more than the EV's when used without a tweeter.
