I have been checking in on Rat Sound for quite some time now. It is rare that you find an expert in a field actually collaborating with others on their website. I don't think you'll find a "rock star" out there doing something like this. For this I have to thank Dave Rat and his crew. Simply Amazing.
I have learned a lot in the last few months from this site alone. I can tell you none of it has failed me yet. For those of you out there looking for internships and trying to break into the sound industry here's a way to get tons of real world experience that you won't get on a typical "rock-n-roll" tour. Go find a modern/contemporary church in your area and audition with them. Not only are they usually looking for sound tech's, they'll probably snag you right up. I doubt you'd get paid, but you will be working with many different scenarios and get some huge mixing experience. Plus the equipment is usually pretty darn good. Something no school that I know of can give you. After a few months of this, if you survive, you could probably take it on the road with no problem. I live in Chicago so if anyone wants to take this route post a follow up and I can hook you up. All it takes is some determination and some reading(manuals of course - it never hurts).
Dave I have a million questions for you, but I'm in the process of reading
the entire message board as to not waste your time with redundant questions.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
