: dave- : been reading your columns in live-audio and really enjoying them. my friend jj was with mxpx as a prod. manager guitar tech. he is the one that tipped me to you guys. man, i love your guys approach to live audio. i have been touring in the christian industry as an engineer prod. manager for 4 years. : but i must admit, it is taxing upon me. i am 27 and been mixing for a long time. i am making a lousy day rate (don't get me wrong, it's better than digging ditches for a living). not to mention, the requirements placed on me as an engineer are impossible. crystal clear vocals, amazing rocking band mix, and low volume. all on a sound system in a church for crying out loud. this cannot all be accomplished at once unless one or two of those things above give a little. i try to ebb and flow with which takes priorty depending on the song and what it needs. the rock songs rock, the ballads have the clean vocal. : so i am trying my best to get out and go where i can just do my job and am given the tools to do it. : do you have any advice for me. it took me 4 years to get to a place where i am making a living at what i love, do i have to start over?? am i being to damn picky. : : lately i have just been taking alot of monitor gigs with the prod manager roll just to skip the hassle of FOH : : anyway : thanks : bryan
