Hello Tony,

Yes, we do offer running the "highs off an aux" on our Rat Trap 5 system. I personally mix the Red Hot Chili Peppers with that option. The advantage is similar the advantage of running subs off an aux which is the "cant get there from here". In that I mean: the lows of the guitar cant get to the subs and waste sub power as well as muddy the system sound. No need to have bass guitar string noise, guitar highs etc... pounding those delicate tweeters.

I personally run lead vocal, high hat and overheads to the tweeters. In order to set the system up for tweets on an aux, there are a few things you will want to do.

1) Set your x-overs so that your 2" run all the way out to 20K or as high as they will go. You then treat your system as a PA with no tweets when you EQ (IE like an EAW 850 rig) where you may want to have some boost to the highs of the 2"

2) Your system should sound good without the tweeters turned on

3) You should time delay the tweeters to line up with the 2". This is more critical than when the 2" are low passed as the interference of the tweets and 2" running the same frequencies can be substantial.

4) The tweets should be run off of a stereo aux send (we do) but not critical if you are not sending stereo signals to to them.

4) make sure your tweets are well protected as it is easy to slam them now that you have separate control over them.

I find tweets on an aux to be an assett to the mix, especially with dynamic bands where on slow quite songs I bring the tweets up and the mix is "glassy" and for the louder/harder songs I turn them down or off to get rid of the "swish".

Let me know if you try it and how it works out

: Hi, I have a system utilizing 2x18" subs which I am happy with. My top boxes are ShowCo "Pope" cabs with 2x12", a 2" and 2x1". Seems I read somewhere (I'm thinking it was you guys) about running the highs (1"ers) off an aux. This 4 way front loaded rig sounds very good but I'm always looking for ways to make it better. Any comments?? And would I need 2 auxes so to keep my stereo image??? What would you put into auxes feeding the highs? Thanks and enjoy the site. It's nice to see someone else doesn't dig the horn loaded sound. I think (along with a whole lot of others) that this rig "sounds" better than the KF850 rigs floating around and I'm using an analog X-over (BSS FDS340).
