Dual 18"/dual 15"/dual 10"/1" Triamp w/ subs on an auxiliary send (~1985)
The top box is basically two of our 15"/10"/1" combined
and the sub is two of our single 18" cabs. It was a very hi-fi sounding
system. The theory was that a dual 10"/1" would be smoother, handle
more power and offer better high frequency response than the 2" that
other systems were using. We were trying to avoid 2" drivers and their
associated painful 2k to 3k range and drastic EQ to compensate. In
smaller venues, it was a great system but as we grew and the venue
sizes we were doing got bigger, we saw the need for more headroom
in the 1K to 4K region. The dual 18" subs were perfected. People tell
us that they are some of the best sounding subs they have ever heard.
With a true "full range box" and true "sub woofer" we were able to
take advantage of the "subs on an auxiliary send" configuration.
The ability to totally isolate the subs and send just the instruments
desired to them, has an amazing effect on system clarity and increases
system volume as well. The Rat Sub tuning is centered at 32 Hz with
a low cutoff at 20 Hz.
