Rat Sound Systems Inc. January 2004 Newsletter
Happy New Year Friend's of the Rats!!! Is it just me or did last year go so fast? It only seemed weeks ago when it was surf time and summer touring and almost overnight it turned freezing cold and was the festive season! The holiday period arrived and it was time, once again, for the Rat annual Christmas dinner. We would just like to take this opportunity to wish you a wonderful 2004 from all here in the Rat World and thanks to all the people we worked with over the past year! We've had some great tours, made some awesome new friends and we're excited about what's coming up this year. It's Award Time in Los Angeles Here is something really shocking: Rat Sound have been nominated for: Pro Lights & Staging News / FRONT of HOUSE magazines' "Sound Company of the Year" Parnelli Award - Ben Harper / Jack Johnson tour and Pollstar "Sound Company of the Year Award" for Ben Harper / Jack Johnson tour Dave Rat was named "Pro Sound News Person of the Year" for the Sound Reinforcement category and is up for the "FOH Mixer of the Year" Parnelli Award - Red Hot Chili Peppers Tour. Apology At the end of last year, we inadvertently sent an old sales newsletter to our "news" newsletter friends list. First, we would like to apologize for the mistake and in this world of spam overload, the last thing Rat wants to do is send unneeded emails. Secondly, be rest assured that we will do our best to be more careful and also know that your email addresses are guarded safe and we never release any info, ever. NAMM Yes, we will be at the NAMM show this year hanging with our friends and showing off the MicroWedges at the Radian booth... Come say hey if you are down there. We will be giving out free Rat stickers, cool Rat Mugs (until they run out) and a free Rat Sniffer / Sender with certain quantity purchases of MicroWedges. The Radian Audio Booth is # 7010... 15th-20th January 2004, Anaheim Convention Center... MicroWedges Oh my! The Rat designed MicroWedges are really taking off. Not only have there been a bunch of cool articles written about them going on tour with several bands for example Queens of the Stone Age and Ben Harper, but the artist who drew the comic strip on the front cover of "Live Sound" magazine (January 2004 issue) has drawn some guy using the MicroWedges as headphones! 10% Over NAMM Sale For the months of January and February, we will be selling all new gear for 10% or less over our cost. If you need any pro audio gear, anything that Rat has access to, we will sell it to you at 10% or less over cost (plus shipping and tax if applicable)... Call 888 545 8271 or e mail salesratsound.com for a quote... Also, for all those of you who are into buying gear you can sign up for our sales newsletter for more cool stuff... Wanna Be Rats We are looking for a new intern for a 6 week internship to start March 16th 2004 with the potential to be taken on full time if it all works out. The dead line for applications is Feb. 20th. Send your resumes and cover letter with "Intern Application" in the subject field to: karrieratsound.com stating why you want to be a Rat. We also now have an "internship section" on our website which will give you a better idea as to what is entailed and if a Rat internship would be something you'd suit and enjoy. We are also building a sort of "education archive" full of articles and anecdotes about how to kick start a career in Live Sound. 80's Punkers Out There? For all you old school punkers, you may enjoy a blast from the past, check out a bunch of old Punk Rock flyers from Black Flag tour, Hong Kong Cafe and LA punk scene in the early 80's Have You Seen... Does anyone have any pictures of anyone recognizable wearing our Rat swag or putting our Rat sticker's anywhere interesting? We'd love your pictures and a short description for our website if you have any. E mail to ratratsound.com if so! Finally, on a More Serious Note... We don't really know what else to say than good bye to a bright light. We heard that Rick Van Santan from Goldenvoice passed away Saturday Dec 27th of something having to do with the flu. Seeing someone whose smile and presence we took for granted is truly a heart crushing shock. Here is Rick at Reading Festival in the UK last summer (2003). We don't know where Rat Sound would be right now without the support and trust of people like himself, Paul and Gary of Goldenvoice. We miss you Rick. Where are the Rat's?
